I've spent pretty much the whole last week working on 4 very awesome projects. The Scarlet Letter at Foothills in Worcester opens this weekend, and the music is very cool. It's all very dissonant string quartets. samples are up here. Black Mariah goes into rehearsal this week. It's an abstract film noire poem being done by the Providence Black Repertory Theatre. The music is period jazz with the occasional dirty blues guitar riff thrown in that flows in and out of city scapes. It's a huge undertaking, and opens at the end of the month. of what will probably be about 40 or so individual musical pieces, I've got about 4 done so far...they're up here.
I've also been hard at work on my new solo record (!) and the long-awaited A Thousand Ships EP. My solo record is an all acoustic thing with a similar sound and style to Quicksand. It features 4 old songs (some dating back to 2003) and 9 new ones and is about 50 minutes long. It's very exciting. I finished most of the drums, bass, and rhythm guitars, and am now working on vocals and all the orchestral stuff. I haven't quite decided on a name yet. right now I'm leaning towards "The Art of Playing Dead." although I think that will change once I have a few decent mixes of the tracks.
I posted a demo for a song I recorded for The Abatements 2 years ago called "The Fall." We threw out our entire repetoire and shifted gears right after I wrote the song so it's never been played live. I wanted to put it on the new album, but couldn't remember how to play it...
